Turning negative emissions
into positive change

By 2030, we will create and operate one of Denmark’s largest scale Bio-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage facilities at our district heating plant in Aarhus, Denmark.

Follow the timeline as it continues to be updated.

Milestone achieved
and to be completed

The project timeline is updated on an ongoing basis.

Retrofitting CCS
to district heating

CO2 will be captured using Amine capture technology. The carbon capture facility will be built as a retrofit to the existing flue gas extraction facility. Moreover, all surplus heat from carbon capture process will be recovered and utilised for district heating supply, enhancing the efficiency of the existing district heating supply.

We are conducting a FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) study in collaboration with multiple global turnkey suppliers who are carbon capture facility construction specialists. This study assesses technical and financial aspects, guiding the design and implementation of the Carbon Capture Plant.

By early 2025, we will have signed a contract with a turnkey technology supplier. This contract will satisfy Kredsløbs comprehensive performance, quality, and environmental requirements. The construction and implementation of the Carbon Capture Plant will then be able to proceed.

Our approach to
transportation and storage

The transportation of CO2 to a storage site will include one or more of electric trucking, shipping, and pipeline transportation.

Several offshore storage sites in the North Sea are viable for the Kredsløb CCS project.

Kredsløb is currently in negotiations for a contract whereby CO2 transportation and geological storage would be provided as a service by a single creditworthy partner. The timeline for finalising the carbon transportation and storage contract is mid-2025.
